Maja Marijan (1987) was born in Belgrade, Serbia. After ten-year training in piano playing at the College of Music, she enrolled at Faculty of Music, University of Arts in Belgrade (2005). She has been noticed since University entrance examination as outstanding pianist with rare gift and brilliant technique.
She graduated (2009) with highest degrees, and was awarded the prize Jelena Pavlovic as the best-graduated student of piano department. Also, she got the scholarship from the Government of Serbia Fund for talents delivered for the best students. She specialized in piano at the Faculty of Music in 2010. In 2006 she won the scholarship from the Rowan University, as well as an assistantship from UF, Florida in 2013. Maja is the founder and Editor-in-Chief of Accelerando: Belgrade Journal of Music and Dance. In addition, she is Artistic Director of the Belgrade Center for Music and Dance, the publishing and educational institution. In addition, she is a member of CID-UNESCO, Paris/Athens. Maja got first prizes at International Competitions, Festivals and former Yugoslav competitions, hold a lot of recitals and participated in performances in Serbia (Belgrade, Kragujevac, Nis, Pancevo, Sabac), in Italy (Lucca, Palazzo Ducale, Gragnano, Agazzano, Val Tidone, San Marino), in USA (Glassboro, New Jersey and Gainesvillle, Florida), in Slovenia (Koper). Maja got compliments of Artur Pizzaro concerning her interpretation of Liszt Hungarian Rhapsody no.2; specially he emphasized his liking of her cadenza and gave her advice to publish it. Also, she has got written opinion from Mrs. Judy Kheler Siebert, pianist and professor from Manitoba (Canada), who considers Maja “has got big talent”, and very similar notions from professors and pianists such as Lovro Pogorelic (Croatia), Ratko Delorko (Germany), Rita Kinka (Serbia), Boris Kraljevic (Montenegro/Singapour), Davide Franceschietti (Italy) and Natasa Veljkovic (Austria). Maja Marijan is also active as a chamber musician and as a composer. Maja's composition “La Valse” was performed at the SASA gallery by the author. She made also a transcription of Liszt's Rhapsodie Espagnole. Maja held lecturers at the International Annual Congress on Performing Arts, at the University of Arts in Belgrade, where she presented her works about the methodology of piano playing, cognitive psychology, sociology and philosophy of music. Her works got attention and were published at Zbornik radova Pedagoškog foruma/Thematic Journal of Performing Arts, Accelerando: Belgrade Journal of Music and Dance, Artefakt Journal, and others. She is interested in methodology of music practice, as well as in cognitive processes that are involved in piano practice and performance. |
